Pastoral care at Parkfields

At Parkfields, we strive to create an environment where everyone is welcome and to build belonging by showing consideration for all.

In our daily lives, we have three abiding principles that are relevant in every aspect of our daily routines:

READY

I’m present, on time, equipped and wearing the correct uniform.

I’m ready to learn.

RESPECTFUL

I talk kindly, listen carefully and I’m silent when asked. I treat others and our environment as I would like to be treated.

SAFE

I follow instructions and consider my actions. I show awareness of everyone; that’s how I am SAFE.

 

This code of behaviour rules out bullying, unkindness, stealing or damage to property in our school. All of us – pupils, families, teachers and governors – will show our disapproval of such acts and will work together to stop them from happening.

Statement on bullying:

This school considers that bullying is a serious threat to the happiness of the school community. We recognise that bullying can take many forms such as ‘name calling’, physical force and ‘ganging up'. 

Our aim is to provide a culture to prevent conflict and promote positive behaviour throughout the school.  When bullying is reported it will be investigated, as all behaviour incidents are, and staff will follow the consequence ladder.  Staff will pro-actively investigate the incident, gather information and share and record with appropriate staff.  Pupils will be supported through our pastoral system.  It may be necessary to involve the Head of Year or a more senior member of staff.  Pupils are encouraged to talk to staff through our strong pastoral system.

Our school behaviour policy outlines the following principles for tackling bullying:

  • Members of the school community are required to fulfil the principle of ‘consideration for all’. To support the enactment of this principle, the school will ensure that prevention is a prominent aspect of its anti-bullying vision.

  • Staff will treat reports of bullying seriously and they will not ignore signs of suspected bullying.

  • Unpleasantness from one pupil towards another is always challenged and never ignored.

  • Staff act immediately when they become aware of a bullying incident; this applies to all staff, not solely teaching staff.

  • Staff always respect pupils’ privacy, and information about specific instances of bullying are not discussed with others, unless it is in a setting that the victim has given consent to, or there is a safeguarding concern.
