Year 5 Football Match Report- By Logan Grumoli

We arrived at Redbourne confident in our team after our win last week, we were raring to go! First up was Arnold, and they were a very strong team. We soaked up a lot of pressure in the first half and used some great counter attacking play, the half time score was 0-0. Joshua had several shots on goal and our goal keeper Noah made some excellent saves. Ben and Euan provided strong defence throughout the game, however, Arnold managed to score 2 goals in the second half, with no reply from Parkfields. Final score Aronold 2-0 Parkfields.

We then watched Arnold play Eaton Bray, it was a competitive game and they drew 1-1.

We did not give up and we went into our next match determined to win. Our opponents were Eatonbruy, it was a tough game with end to end football. In the first half Tyler pulled off some excellent saves in goal and some great defensive work from Ben. In the second half Euan also pulled off some amazing saves! Adam had a few shots on goal but their keeper was very strong. We eventually took the lead with Louie driving forwards towards the opponents goal down the left wing, his shot was saved by the keeper and deflected out where Logan then scored the winning goal putting us 1-0 up.

Our whole team played very well together, well done Parkfields!

Netball Report - Year 6

On Wednesday 16th October, the Year 6 netball team went to Robert Bloomfield Academy. The captain did a coin flip and we went into our first game with hope. Woodlands got first centre pass so we picked where to shoot. The game began and after the first half it was 5-0 to them but in the second half we got one goal back. The final score was 7-1 to them.

We hoped to win the next game and at the beginning we won first centre pass. They scored 2 goals but in the second half they contacted so we got a penalty. We scored and the whistle blew. It was the end of the match and the final score was 2-1 to them.

The player of the match was Lily McLeod for excellent defending. Well Done!

Football Report - Year 6

On Thursday 10th October, the Year 6 football team went away to play at Beecroft Academy. We decided our positions and started warming up. We went into the first quarter, it was 2-0 to us. Then we rotated around. We went back on and scored but so did they. At half time the score was 3-1 to us. We were happy and had a team talk. We went on for the next quarter but we fouled them and they got a penalty. They scored from the penalty but we didn’t give up. We managed to score one more goal and then switched again. In the last five minutes we scored and won 5-3.

Rugby report - Year 6

Parkfields v Holywell – Rugby friendlies

Parkfields fielded two equal teams against Holywell in preparation for a tournament we have entered next week. This gave some of the boys their first taste of competitive contact rugby which they were very excited by. The games were coached by the staff as well as being refereed to help both schools with some of the technicalities around the laws, particularly around the breakdown (tackle and ruck). With both Parkfields teams playing at the same time it was difficult to keep and know the exact score from all four matches. Needless to say, our pupils were keen to inform me that Parkfields had indeed won all their games which was confirmed by Mr Eammes (PE teacher at Holywell).

The boys really enjoyed the experience which will stand them in good stead for more frequent matches next year. With a squad of 13 only being able to go to the festival next week, some of the boys will miss out but I hope they had fun and will try just as hard to represent the school at the next available opportunity. Well done to all the boys who took part this week!

Netball report - Year 6

On Wednesday 30th October the Year 6 netball team went to Etonbury to play. We started off well with a strong defence but their attack were good and they scored. At half time we rotated some positions and in the second half we had some great passes. We then managed to get the ball up to our end a few times and at the end we scored at goal!

Player of the match was Devan for her great centre work up and down the court.

Well done everyone who played.

Netball report - Year 6

On Wednesday 5th November the Year 6 netball team played Holywell and Marston Vale.

As we won the toss we chose first centre pass. With some great passing and shooting in the first match it was a win to us 5-1 against Holywell.

In the second match versus Marston Vale we had a lot of inaccurate passes and were unable to get as free and narrowly lost 3-1. Player of the match was Lily M for excellent play in both defense and attack.

Year 6 - Rugby Festival

Henlow 2-1 Parkfields, Holywell 1-2 Parkfields, Alameda 2-1 Parkfields, RBA 3-1 Parkfields

The boys played in their first rugby festival on Friday against four other schools from our local partnership. This was a great opportunity for the boys to get some rugby experience and help to prepare them for league matches in year 7. They all worked really hard, played some good rugby and improved their game knowledge. I was particularly impressed with the rucking and passing of Vale R, the tackling of Richard D and the footwork of Owen R and and Vaughan H. All the games were very close and could have gone either way. We will continue to work hard at practice on Thursday lunchtimes to get even better! Well done to everyone who took part.

Netball - Year 5

On Wednesday 20th November year 5 competed in their first netball matches at Robert Bloomfield School. We played RBA first and it was a tough game with the play moving up and down the court. Parkfields just couldn't score and we lost 6-0.

In the second match against Woodlands it was a much more even game with us drawing at half-time. The second half saw us score some goals and the final score was 3-1 to us!

All the players played well in their first matches but Player of the Day went to Lara Mayne for her excellent defensive play.

Netball Report - Year 6

On Wednesday 13th November we went to Alameda and played against them and Henlow. Our first match was against Alameda. They had first centre pass and we chose our goal. We held up on defence but they had some brilliant interceptions. Sadly, they beat us. Alameda’s coach decided to do player of the match. From our team they picked Devan and we picked their captain because of how great she played and all her brilliant interceptions. Well done to all the team we did our best and that’s what counts even if we did lose.

Next we played Henlow; Izzy T got us first centre. We all played really well but we gave some passes away and they were very good at keeping the ball away from us. Our defence played very well. We had some great passes and got down to our shooting end but they stole the ball and got it away from us. Everyone had a great time and unfortunately they did beat us. I’m so happy with how everyone played.

Futsal Festival Report - Year 6

Friday 29th November

We were invited to take part and so travelled to Bedford to play in a Futsal Festival against some very strong opposition against teams from Bedford and Luton.

We played incredibly well on the day managing to reach the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Fulbrook Middle School.

We started really well against Castle Newman, going a couple of goals ahead before they came back into the match. They managed to score a last second equaliser resulting in a lively 5-5 score line and a draw.

The next match was the total opposite, as we battled out a 0-0 draw against Hazeldene.

Knowing that we had to win to progress, we managed to beat Fulbrook 2-1 in a fantastic display of skill and determination.

The semi-final saw us play RBA who eventually got over the line beating us 4-2.

We played in a third/fourth match play off against Brooklands who had just too much energy for us in the end as we went down by 4-1.

The pupils played really well, had an excellent experience and represented themselves and the school with flying colours. Well done to all of them.

Netball Report - Year 5

On 4th November Parkfields travelled to Holywell School. We played 4 quarters as Marston Vale had pulled out of the fixture. We won the toss and took first centre pass. Both teams were keen to get the ball into their circle but were pulled up for footwork and being offside. By halftime it was 0-0.

Play settled down in the second half and Parkfields managed to score 2 goals after lots of missed attempts. The final score was 2-0 to Parkfields. A big well done to the team and Player of the Match was Sophie Clarke for getting into great spaces, something we had worked on at practice.
