Year 6 Netball Report November 2023

We started off strong with us winning the first center pass with Alice as center. We did some great defending trying to get the ball to our side but unfortunately they scored two goals.

The first quarter finished and it was 2-0 to Henlow.

We knew that they were a difficult team to beat as they scored a further 3 goals in the 2nd quarter but we kept on trying and Holly scored a goal. We finished the 2nd quarter with the score 5-1. After a half time pep talk from Mrs Ward, we went back out there and played well. After some great goal-keeping from Isla W, Izzy scored a fantastic goal ending the 3rd quarter 6-2.

The final quarter started and we held our heads high. With the ball going back and forth continually,  we fought back hard and Izzy scored another goal. Despite some great defence, Henlow’s attack was strong and and they scored another 2 goals to bring the final score to 8-3.

Year 6 Netball Match Report

By Luenna, Lola and Lily

Luenna-On Wednesday we set off determined to win against Henlow. After a few confident passes we got one goal in from Luenna but so did they. A great centre pass from Lola but they managed to get it back to their third and scored a goal.

Lola-We came back to the second Quarter with a great pep talk with Mrs Ward, and after our centre pass we got a fantastic goal from Elsa. But Henlow kept on shooting, we tried our best to defend, it was a hard game. Henlow had really good shooters but we tried our best. We nearly got a goal from Lily and Elsa.

Lily- In the third half we decided to step our game up. We had a really hard game to play and we kept on trying and we didn't give up. We were really good at defending but Henlow kept on scoring over and over again. The final score was 14-2. Well done to the girls who played Hannah, Freya, Luenna, Lola, Lily,Martha and Elsa.

Parkfields V's Pixbrook Academy

By Elsa Z

The super-eight set off to play Pixbrook Academy on Wednesday after school.  After a quick pep talk from Miss Ward, we were motivated and determined to win the game.  Pixbook had the first centre pass but we managed to defend the ball and get it down to their third.  We positioned ourselves in the goal area and Elsa managed to score a goal! By the end of the first quarter our team was winning by three goals to nil.

Miss Ward swapped around some of the positions and we started the second quarter of the game with a centre pass from Freya.  This quarter was a little tougher and by the end Pixbrook Academy scored once but we managed to gain another two goals.

The third quarter of the game was not so good!  They managed to score two goals, and although we had a shot at goal, it missed.  The overall score was currently 5-3 to Parkfields.

The final quarter was eventful, ending in a 2-2 draw, which gave a final score of 7-5 to Parkfields.  We were thrilled with the result.  A big thanks to all our great players; Freya, Luenna and Lola, our fantastic Centres and Wings.  Martha and Elizabeth, our great defenders.  Elsa and Lily, our outstanding shooters and a special thanks to Miss Ward for being our brilliant coach.

Henlow vs Parkfields Year 7

By Rachael C

First Half

We started strong with Rose and Gabby's support on the sidelines. Many excellent interceptions from Izzy and passes by Chloe. Unfortunately the opposition did  manage to get  the ball into their  shooter who scored every time. We tightened our defence but continued to struggle to restrict their attackers who were just too strong.

Second Half

After an encouraging half time talk from Mrs Ward, Rose and Gabby,we started the second half full of enthusiasm and determination . We performed some excellent backline and sideline  passes and continued to work hard for each other to get back into the game. Although in the end we lost 8-0, we really enjoyed the game and came home smiling. Well done to all the girls who played. These were: Gabby H,Bow,Lexie,Izzy G,Rachael,Isla, Eva, Anya and Chloe. Thank you Rose, Gabby K and Mrs Ward for taking us and coaching us. Well done Henlow, you might have won this time but there won’t be a second!

Netball v Henlow

By Bella Bacon

On Wednesday the year 8 girls played a netball match against Henlow. We started off the game really strongly and scored in the first minute. We carried on playing well in the first quarter and scored 2 more times.

In the 2nd quarter we made lots of good passes and kept the ball up our end. Our defence was really good and we managed to stop them from scoring. In the 3rd quarter we scored a lot and only let the other team score once. The 4th quarter was really good with lots of good passes and goals.

Well done to our top goal scorer Devon. Overall the score was 14:1 to Parkfields  - well done to everyone who played.

Netball v Pixbrook

Year 7 v's Pixbrook

By Charlotte Dow

Wednesday after school the year 7 netball team played an away match against Pixbrook Academy. Even though we started off with a rocky start, someone forgetting the bibs, racing around school to find a player and some queezyness on the minibus it all paid off.

Both teams played extremely well but here is what led us to our 9:0 victory: 4 amazing goals from Sophie Clark, 5 superb goals from Tia Roche, great marking and defending from Eive Mason and Gabrellia King, brilliant teamwork and passing from players Marnie Hocking and Rose Bucknell. Tamsin Collier played amazingly in her positions as well as Zoe Gray. Well done to all girls that played and be ready for the match report next week.

Netball v Arnold and Etonbury

Year 8  v's Arnold and Etonbury

On Wednesday 25th September, the Parkfields netball team were warming up, waiting for Arnold to arrive. As captain, it was up to me to pick which hand the stone was in (to determine whether or not we had first centre pass or which way to shoot) sadly, I was wrong, we decided which way to shoot and we were off!

First half of the first game; despite all our great passes and amazing defending they had scored a few more than one goal. By half time they had scored 7. After a quick team talk to try maintain our spirits we were back on to play! We were soon to realise our only chance was to at least reduce the amount of goals they were successfully shooting, our defence kept pushing but it seemed impossible. It was now full time and unfortunately the score was 14-0 to Arnold.

We had the next match to sit, practice and analyse Etonbury. In no time at all, Arnold were leading and Parkfields and Etonbury were in the starting positions. It was Etonbury’s first centre pass; as I once again chose the wrong hand. Oops! The first half seemed reasonably matched. The opposing team had scored two by half time. Once we had a quick talk from Miss about how we may actually win this one, we were stepping foot onto the court yet once again. Some quick passes between the Parkfields girls and the ball was in our D. A fast in and out of the D was all Olivia needed to get into that perfect ‘shot spot’. She aimed, shot and scored. It went in! With gleaming smiles on our faces we headed back to the centre pass and somehow, the ball was back in Liv’s hands...within the D. She took the shot and straight through the hoop it went. It was 2-2. Sadly, within the next two minutes they had scored another two more! But, thankfully, the ball decided to pay a visit back to our shooting area. This time Iona had it. All the Parkfields hopes were high. It went in! Iona had just scored making it 4-3 with only 30 seconds left. Unfortunately, 30seconds wasn’t quite enough. The game had ended on a score of 4-3 to Etonbury but it was really close!

Player of the match: Olivia Holmes for really good playing and great shooting and Grace Anderson for intercepting so many opposing passes. But a really well done to all the girls who played.
By this weeks netball captain,

Year 7 Netball v Arnold & Etonbury

On Wednesday 25th September, Parkfields Year 7 netball team played Arnold and Etonbury.

We played Arnold first. We started off with some great passes and we had an amazing defence but so did they.  Towards the end of the first half we managed to get the ball down our end and Emily made a great shot.  At half time it was 5-1, we were losing but we didn’t lose hope. We played well in the second half but lost 7-1.

Next we played Etonbury.  We started off well and got the ball down our end and Emily scored again! It was 1-0 at half time.  In the second half they got the ball down our end and managed to score.  They got stronger and scored a couple more times.  Clara then scored and they scored again.  The final score was 5-2.

The player of the match was Millie

Netball v RBA & Woodlands

Year 8 v's RBA & Woodlands

On Wednesday 18th September, the year 8 girls netball team set off to play our first two matches of the season. We were on our way to Robert Bloomfield Academy (the fixture location) when some great songs came on, so of course all the year 8 girls went mental as we began to sing notes only cats and dogs could hear!

In no time at all, we had arrived.  Woodlands were up first, we started off with some great passes, but we had all highly underestimated their abilities! We managed to get the ball into our D but unfortunately missed the shot. It was now half-time, we made some quick swaps to positions and then back on to play! Woodlands were scoring every second despite all our amazing passes and some awesome marking. The whistle was blown taking us to the end of the match and unfortunately we had lost, by a lot.

With our spirits slightly duller we stepped onto the court ready to face our next team, Robert Bloomfield. Everyone was ready...waiting...the whistle had gone and we had some amazing passes, a few interceptions and a bit of sadness as we watched RBA's first ball go through the hoop. They scored a few more, but then, it was in our D, finally Iona had the ball preparing to take a shot when she threw the ball up and it went straight through the hoop. What a perfect shot! It was now half-time once again. Mrs Ward made a few position changes and gave an incredibly inspirational speech. Back on to the court, this was our last half of the last match, there it was, the sound of the whistle, we were off! Some amazing passes and teamwork on both teams sadly they scored a couple more goals, leaving us with only one. We came off. It was over. Parkfields lost both matches. But we'll get them next time!

Woman Of The Match: Megan U for a lot of great defending. Well done to all the girls who played!

Year 7 Netball v RBA and Woodlands

On the 18th September, Parkfields travelled to Robert Bloomfield to play netball against Woodlands and Robert Bloomfield.

Firstly, we played Woodlands. The game set off with a bang! Within minutes, Woodlands had scored. After some encouraging words of wisdom from our Captain, Ruby D, we were ready to try our best for the rest of that half. Before we knew it, the first half was over. We walked back into the game with our heads held high. We blocked a lot of passes and made some good ones.

Sadly the game finished. The score was very close but we did lose.

Next we played Robert Bloomfield. They had a very strong defence line and were very good at shooting. We did try our best but sadly we lost that game as well.

Well done to all the girls that played. The player of the match was Ruby D.

Netball v Alameda & Henlow

Year 8 v's Alameda and Henlow

On Wednesday, the 9th of October all the girls in the year 8 netball team were ready, waiting for our first team to arrive. Once we spotted that the Henlow minibus had arrived we let them warm up a little bit and afterwards we got straight into the match. As Elizabeth was captain this week, she had to pick whether or not we wanted ‘first centre pass’ or what our preference was to which way we were shooting. Once Liz had chosen, we got straight into positions with the first centre pass. We immediately realised that it was reasonably matched. We scored the first goal, of the first half. Yay! Our spirits were held high but unfortunately Henlow scored soon after us. It was 2-2 by half time.

Mrs Ward made a few quick position changes and we went back onto play. Sadly, once we had realised that we may actually win this match it went downhill; we weren’t thinking about anything, dropping the ball and panicking. The match ended with a score of 7-4. We were off the next match whilst Alameda played Henlow. The Parkfields girls did some practicing, some watching and some listening to Molly and Iona’s mums when they started giving up some useful tips.

Sooner or later, it was us against Alameda. We already knew that a few of the team members played  for actual teams however their GA played in the regional and county teams. It wasn’t long until they had scored their first 3 goals. By half-time they had scored about 8. We entered the second half knowing that we could really do was prevent how many goals they were scoring. They scored a few more goals but eventually, we had a ball in our third. I wasn’t in the best position but I knew that if I passed it would get intercepted. I threw a ball up and we all hoped that it would go in...it did! There were a few small celebrations around the group despite the fact that we were still losing drastically. The match ended with a very painful 18-1. There were no ‘Women Of The Matches’ as such because we all played really well in our particular areas. Well done to all the girls who played!
